"Simplicity is the keynote to all true elegance..."
-Coco Chanel

This project was actually a former home of mine. The "before" pictures tell the tale: Super traditional home - yellow on every single wall - light oak floors - builder lighting - builder fireplaces…. sigh. But this was a house that I knew I could make my mark upon and illustrate to clients that sometimes a "kick in the pants" is exactly what you need. Scope of this project: Tear out both fireplaces - stone to ceiling in keeping room and add a raised hearth - in the great room we raised the hearth and stoned midway with a rustic fir beam mantle; the floors were sanded and restrained a dark walnut; we removed the builder lighting and fans - 25 new fixtures and fans were installed (including removing can lights and installing mini-chandeliers under the breezeway); We added a beverage center in the kitchen and upgraded the knobs (this builder used the exact same knob in absolutely every room in this house!); we ripped out the useless bench in the mud room and replaced it with a gorgeous chest/mirror/lamp combo; we painted… different colors in different rooms (a novel idea!)… the scheme was based upon the colors in the custom rug that was in the great room; plantation shutters were added in various rooms; a storage area was converted into an office after building into the eaves; hardwoods added in master/upper office/upper hallway… carpet replaced in all carpeted areas and then the exterior was given a rich dash of color…. (secret: don't just paint your front door an accent color… use that color on all your doors around your house - that way you're extending your color scheme all around your home!). I guess the house was well-received… it sold in 25 days during the Fall!
