Villa Isla: A Labor of Love
So this house truly was a labor of love… this was my home on Lake Norman for almost 10 years-such a fun chapter of my life. My husband and I bought this home in 2013 as a short sale-it was only 5years old and while the decor was NOT my jam, the overall bones were good and the location was ideal. So we started tweaking this little by little and at the end of 10 years we had touched every single room to some degree. Our biggest changes were the addition of the covered porch and pool, building out the guest house (which featured a kitchen, living room, bedroom & bathroom), renovating/updating the kitchen, wet bar, wine cellar, primary bath and guest baths (not to mention new paint, hardwoods, carpeting and lighting throughout). By the time we were done I thought my husband might strangle me if he heard “but honey, we just HAVE to do…” one more time.
The pics I show here are an incredibly white-washed version of how we truly lived in the space-we were much moodier (especially with our paint choices)-I neutralized it when we decided we were moving from lake to sea and thought my more eclectic personal style needed a bit of dumbing-down. And yes, I know I don’t have rugs-it’s a cornerstone of layers of design. But I have 3 puppies. I’ve gone through rugs like a box of Milk Duds in a movie theater. So let’s just act like we see rugs, okay?
Villa Isla-you were so good to us… I left a big part of my heart here on Island Drive and in North Carolina. Who know, maybe a future chapter in my life will find me back here…
